David Ettinger teaches United States History and American Government and Economics. Born in Inglewood, California, he grew up in Pasadena, California. After attending Pasadena public schools, he went on to San Diego State University for two years before transferring to the University of California at Santa Barbara. A graduate in Sociology in 1987, Mr. Ettinger explored a variety of occupational avenues ranging from restaurant management to real estate sales to pool cleaning and maintenance before returning to school to earn his teaching credential at Cal State University, Los Angeles in 1994
The son of an English teacher and a former municipal court judge, Mr. Ettinger brings interests in politics, public policy, social issues and current events to his enthusiasm for teaching. Art involvement has included both piano and organ training at an early age. Also drums, cartooning and ceramics while in high school, as well as current interests in photography, jazz and animation.
An avid basketball fan, Mr. Ettinger was lucky to have attended UCSB during the Brian Shaw (current Laker) era in the late 1980's. Mr. Ettinger was able to attend many of the games at the infamous Thunderdome, including the defeat of then national #1 team, U.N.L.V., who the Gauchos beat that year in Las Vegas as well.
Current hobbies include running, skiing, tennis and occasional surfing and mountain biking. Vacationing in Hawaii is also a favorite, as is visiting family in the Seattle area. Mr. Ettinger still resides in Pasadena with his wife Timie and daughter Talia.
