
Paul Gothold, Principal
Paul Gothold was appointed principal of Los Angeles County High School for the Arts in July 2004. Prior to that, he served for two years as the principal of the Southern Principal Administrative Unit, Division of Alternative Education (DAE) of Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE). In that capacity, he supervised thirteen school sites with a total of 600 students (seven high schools and six middle schools) in the Long Beach area. He implemented teacher study groups for standards-based planning and assessment, differentiated instruction, professional development, and how the latest professional research and best practices could be incorporated into those classrooms. Mr. Gothold served on the DAE Leadership Committee for LACOE. He served as Western Accreditation for Schools and Colleges chair and member of visiting committees for evaluating a number of schools in California. He served as Curriculum and Instruction representative for the state's Community Day School Network.
As Assistant Principal in that same DAE unit from 1999 to 2001, Mr. Gothold authored three board-approved, standards-based courses, assisted teachers in implementing standards-based education and coordinated the Digital High School grant. As a teacher in the DAE from 1993-1999, he developed two programs: review and selection of appropriate curricular materials and collaboration with local districts. He served as a mentor and assessor for the Beginning Teacher Program throughout LA County. Invited presentations have included: Improving Teaching and Learning, 2003, LACOE Principal Academy; Integration of Technology with the Curriculum and Content Standards, JCCAC Conference, Long Beach; and Good Practices for Strengthening Relationships Between the School, Parents and Community, FSCP National Conference, Johns Hopkins University.
Since 2002, Mr. Gothold has been an adjunct professor at Whittier College. He is currently in the doctoral program at USC. As a musician, Mr. Gothold performed in various musicals, played coronet in his high school band and orchestra, sang baritone in the Chorale Bel Canto and Whittier College Choir and studied piano for many years.

Valerie Huber, Assistant Principal
Valerie Huber is from South Pasadena, California. She attended South Pasadena High School, graduated cum laude from UCLA with a B.A. in Sociology, and has an M.A. in Computer Education from U.S.I.U. (United States International University).
In addition to teaching computer technology and H.O.P. computer applications to students and adults at South Pasadena High School for 17 years, Ms. Huber served as Technology Mentor; WASC Focus on Learning Co-Chairperson; Digital High School Co-Chairperson; Scholarship Committee Co-Chairperson; Department Chairperson; and as Advisor to the Freshman, Sophomore, and Junior Classes and the Computer Club and Drill Team. She also served on numerous committees including: School-to-Career, Leaders in Technology Education, Restructuring, Coalition of Academic Leaders, School Site Council, LAAMP, Coalition of Essential Schools, and Peer Coaching. Ms. Huber was a liaison between the community and South Pasadena High School for many years and received numerous awards including: Teacher of the Year Award from the Los Angeles County Office of Education and South Pasadena Unified School District; Teacher of the Year from the Oneonta Club of South Pasadena; the Hartsough Award from the students of South Pasadena High School; Recognition of Excellence as a Technology Mentor Teacher from South Pasadena Unified School District; Outstanding Teacher Recognition from UC San Diego; Who's Who Among American Technology Instructors and Who's Who Among American High School Teachers. |
