Administration

Dr. Dan Castro, Chair, has composed for orchestra, wind ensemble, choral, chamber groups, solo piano and voice. He has received commissions and had his compositions performed by numerous groups and festivals including: UCLA Wind Ensemble, CSULB Wind Ensemble, University Nevada, Reno Wind Ensemble, Idaho State University Wind Ensemble, UCLA New Music Festival, Foro Internacional de Musica Nueva (Mexico City), UCLA Symphony and Thousand Oaks Community Wind Ensemble. With a B.A., M.A. and Ph.D. from UCLA in Music Composition/ Theory, Dan has been the Director of Bands for Artesia High School in Lakewood, Teaching Associate for Music Theory Courses at UCLA and Choral Director for Rancho Alamitos High School in Garden Grove. He has been the Chair of the Music Department at LACHSA since 1995, inspiring many young musicians and bringing them extraordinary learning and performing opportunities.

Vocal Theory

Dornell Carr has been a faculty member of the music department for many years. He is the accompanist for Gospel Choir and arranger for the Vocal Jazz Ensemble. He is instrumentally fluent in Blues, Jazz, Gospel, Rock, R&B, and much more. He assists many students in the music tehnology class with their compositions and synthetical arrangements (ranging from midi sequencing to non-linear music arrangment). He is an accomplished musician and teacher.
