Jason Goldman is the 2003-2004 Director of Jazz and Pasadena Showcase House for the Arts Composer-in Residence at the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts. Impressed by his growing reputation as a jazz composer and musician, the Bobby Brooks Memorial Endowment Fund at LACHSA has commissioned Mr. Goldman to compose music for the Jazz Band for the second year. He is also a professor of jazz at the University of Southern California, and an instructor/educationalconsultant for the TheloniousMonk Institute of Jazz. Mr. Goldman is the winner of the 2001 IAJE/ASCAP emerging artist commission honoring Dr. Billy Taylor, one of the most prestigious awards in the jazz composition field. He completed an intense study of jazz composition and film composing at the Berklee College of Music in 1998. He was then accepted into the prestigious Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz and USC on a full scholarship. As a member of this quintet, he performed with various jazz masters worldwide, including a two-week tour of Egypt with jazz great Herbie Hancock. Jason performed with or composed for jazz icons such as Wayne Shorter, Christian McBride, Terence Blanchard, Clark Terry, Jimmy Heath, Phil Woods, Jon Faddis, Bobby Watson, Kenny Barron, and Jim McNeely. He has also performed at a variety of jazz festivals and venues including the North Sea Jazz Festival, Tri-C Jazz Festival, Monterey Jazz Festival, Jackie Robinson Jazz Festival, Hawaiian Jazz Festival, Bellayre Jazz Festival, New Orleans Jazz Heritage Festival, and at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC. Jason’s debut album The Definitive Standard features his nine-piece ensemble performing original compositions and arrangements. It was released on the JMGJazz record label. Jazz music critic Victor Magnani described it as: “…an impressive debut with excellent writing, strong ensemble playing and fine solos. It foretells much fine music to come.”

Pat Bass has an extensive background in both commercial and gospel music. She toured as a member of the 5th Dimension for two years and currently performs her solo nightclub act throughout Southern California. Ms. Bass' theatre and stage experience includes: The Johnny Carson Testimonial, The Phyllis Diller Show, The Don Rickles Show, The Vikki Carr Show and The Merv Griffin Show. Her gospel credits include directing of The Divine Guidance Choraliers and Affirmation. Ms. Bass can currently be heard on a recent CD, Basic Instincts, by Henry Franklin. Other recent accomplishments include: the Bravo Award for Musical Presentation; the Community Service Award for service at community juvenile court schools; the AMI Jazz Performance (San Gabriel Alliance for the Mentally Ill); Coordinator between Music For All Seasons and the McLaren Children’s Center; Music Director of the LACHSA Gospel Choir in Say It With Music, a celebration of Irving Berlin at the Mark Taper Forum; Choir Director at the Monterey Jazz Festival High School Competition; Gospel Choir Director at a performance for black educators (Mariott Hotel in Manhattan Beach) at the Superintendent's Conference hosted by LA County Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Ingwerson, and at the International Association of Jazz Educators. Ms. Bass is presently jazz instructor at California State University, Los Angeles and the Vocal Jazz and Gospel Choir Director here at LACHSA.

Dan Lutz received his Bachelor of Music Education from CSU Northridge and his M.F.A. from California Institute of the Arts in May 2002, where he studied with world-renowned bassist Charlie Haden. In 1999, Dan joined jazz-organ legend, Brian Auger’s “Oblivion Express” and toured Europe and the United States. With the Express, he recorded “Voices of Other Times” Miramar Records, 2000. Guitar legend, Andy Summers of the Police, hired Dan for his modern jazz power trio. Dan also plays with the James Carney Trio, who were recently named Best New Jazz Group in LA by the LA Weekly. Playing both acoustic and electric bass, he has performed, recorded and toured with Andy Summers, Joe LaBarbera, Deron Johnson, Chad Wackerman, Robben Ford, Ernie Watts, Rosemary Clooney, Jack Sheldon, Brian Lynch, Ron McCurdy, and many others. Dan is writing, singing, directing and playing bass cutting edge gospel/hip-hop Christian music. Jazz signer Raya Yarborough’s new album, “Raya’s Mood” on Encoded Music features Dan’s upright and electric playing. In addition to teaching at Arts High, he is also an artist/clinician for Yamaha Music Education and the Thelonious Monk Jazz Institute.

Rob Lockhart holds a Master's of Music Degree in Jazz Studies from Eastman School of Music and a B.A. with honors from the University of Texas. Rob has toured and performed with such artist as Woody Herman, Doc Severmsen, Tom Harrell, and Joe LaBarbara. He has also recorded with Bob Sheppard, Bob Cumow, Jeff Babko, Matt Harris, and Bill Cuniffe. Rob's work can also he heard in numerous television, film and commercial recordings including Cheers, Party of Five, Vegas Vacation, Dillinger, Apple Computer, Disney Channel and Coca Cola. Rob has also taught saxophone and jazz studies at Loyola College (New Orleans, La.) and is presently on the faculty at Cal State University, Northridge and the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts.

Bill Waysaske earned his Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies at the University of North Texas and attended the prestigious Henry Mancini Institute. In 2001-2002, he played on the world tour of Steve Tyrell. From 2002-2005, he played in the world tour of Michael Bublé. He is featured on the DVD/CD “Come Fly with Me” by Michael Bublé. TV appearances include The Today Show with Katie Couric, Ellen DeGeneres, Craig Kilborn, Larry King Live, Wayne Brady, Extra, QVCX, Dateline NBC and various international programs. He won an American Gold Record, Australian Platinum Record, UK Platinum Record and Canadian Gold Record (Michael Bublé Debut). His endorsements include: TAMA Drums, Bosphorus Cymbals, Vater Percussion, Aquarian Drumheads, Phat Foot USA and Brady Drums. He was the featured artists in Drumscene Magazine in July 2004, in Modern Drummer 2005 and DRUM Magazine in 2005.
